This time of year we hear a lot about “easter”, but the word is not easter in our scriptures, if you look up the word, it is the word “pesach” or Passover. Also called the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
Easter is the name of a pagan holiday that the church used to mark resurrection day to “pull in pagans” many centuries ago, that, eggs, spring and bunnies….Whether this is good or bad isn’t the point of this blog post. But it is a historical fact and so it’s important to understanding the whole picture. The church, I believe, did this with good intentions but it has lead us away from scriptures and that to me is the problem now. So let’s see what God said about this day.
We will start by just reviewing some basics to set a foundation.
Jesus (Yeshua) died as our passover lamb.
He rose 3 days later.
Do not let anyone talk you into the nonsense about 2 and a half days, partial days and all the other stuff out there to try to “explain” away mixing a pagan holiday with the greatest day of the year, which sadly the church did for centuries. The Word says 3 days, the picture given of Jonah is 3 days, and Yeshua rose again after 3 days. The Word says it, that’s the end of it! 🙂
Now, the hebrew month called Nisan, is the month we are going to pay attention to here. (God set a new calendar in Exodus 12 changing the 7th month to the 1st month. You’ll see this as you study it out. Prior to Exodus 12 Nisan is called the 7th month, after Exodus 12 it is called the 1st month.)
Passover (Pesach) begins at Sundown on Nisan 14 . So Jesus (Yeshua) rose again on Nisan 17 (after 3 full days.)
So Resurrection day is Nisan 17.
And you will hear folks say it doesn’t matter what day, as long as you remember/celebrate etc. I am not trying to tell you to not enjoy your weekly services with your church and family at all, but I feel it is very important to walk in the truth and to know that the date mattered enough to God that He “marked” it with pictures and shadows of what was coming all through the bible so that we could be assured by the date (foretold signs) that Jesus (Yeshua) is the Messiah.
God picked the day and it matters.
I am here to tell you God shows us it does matter. He left a bread crumb about Nisan 17 all through scripture pointing us to the resurrection. Each “crumb” is a picture of the greatest event in human history.
- Nissan 17, Noah’s Ark safely rested on Mt. Ararat (Gen 8:4) Note that the seventh month was later designated as the first month at the time of the Exodus (Ex. 12:2).
- Nissan 17, Hebrews entered Egypt (Exo 12:40-41) 430 years before deliverance.
- Nissan 17, Moses led the Israelites through the Parting of the Red Sea (Exo 3:18, 5:3)
- Nissan 17, Israel entered and ate the first fruit of the Promised Land (Joshua 5:10-12)
- Nissan 17, The cleansing of the Temple by Hezekiah (eight hundred years after entering the promised land. (2 Chronicles 29:1-28)
- Nissan 17, Queen Esther saved the Jews from Elimination (Esther 3:12, 5:1)
- Nissan 17, The Resurrection of Messiah
I am only briefly giving you this info because it is vitally important that you get into the Word and study it out yourselves and see the amazing miracle of “Bread crumbs” pointing to Messiah’s resurrection, starting in Genesis 🙂
The date/day DOES matter! 🙂
HE IS RISEN!
Here are two other links that give more info for you to study. The odds of these events all happening on the same day are astronomical. Don’t you love when the bible proves that it’s God-breathed?!!!
