Study points:

Isaiah 49-52

• The political mission of Cyrus to bring Jacob back to Jerusalem is a shadow of the spiritual redemption by the Servant to free His people from the captivity of sin.

• The suffering servant will ultimately be a light to the gentiles (goyim in Hebrew), the nations other than Israel.

• The Lord will restore Zion. Their rejection of Messiah is not the end of His plan for Israel.

Philippians 4

• Do not be anxious. How is this possible? It is a 3-step process.

• I heard it explained once as chess moves.

• We do: v6 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.“

• God does: v7 “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.“

• And we do: v8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

• v9 “and the God of peace shall be with you.“

• Oh Lord! How great are your works!!
